Overview

Since its 2014 model year redesign, the Lexus IS

sedan has evolved into a formidable competitor in

compact luxury sport sedan segment with its excellent

handling, modern interior, and an optional 3.5-liter V-6

that provides strong acceleration. In a comparison test

against the Infiniti Q50S, we said that the IS 350 F Sport

was “amazingly fun to drive” everywhere and that the car is

“just as happy on a mountain road as it is cruising comfortably

down the highway.” The active dampers on the IS 350 F Sport

give it a superb balance between a comfortable ride and engaging

driving dynamics, which makes it the superior all-around vehicle.

While its rear seats remain tight, we said in a 2014 First Test review

that the IS’ cabin is a pleasant place to spend time in with well

bolstered and comfortable seats.

The IS convertible, which continues with the last-generation IS

underpinnings and exterior design, is less impressive than the new

generation sedan. In a comparison test between four compact luxury convertibles,

we said that the IS 350 C was more of a cruiser and had “languid and dull”

steering and a suspension that didn’t work well in aggressive driving.

However, like in other Lexus models, the car’s interior is well-built and refined

Ultimately, this means that, just like with any other car brand, Lexus’ reputation may not be true for the car that you end up buying and driving. You can end up with a lemon, or you may not. Lexus had one more car on Consumer Reports’ list, and that was the 2013 RX, which was the only luxury midsize SUV on the list. The RX from this model year wasn’t very spectacular, and Consumer Reports even called its infotainment system “convoluted.”

That said, the 2013 RX made up for it by being a very comfortable SUV to drive around in. Consumer Reports said that it had a “well-finished” interior that had spacious and comfortable seating for its passengers. Furthermore, Consumer Reports praised its ride comfort as well as its noise levels. Unsurprisingly, this logic applies to Lexus’ cars, and it’s also why used Lexus’ are very good options for shoppers.
