2002 Toyota Corolla G 1.5 VVT-i
The Corolla G 1.5 VVT-i is a road car from Toyota,
with front wheel drive, a front located engine and a
4 door saloon (sedan) body style. Power is supplied
by a double overhead camshaft, 1.8 litre naturally
aspirated 4 cylinder motor, with 4 valves per cylinder
that provides power and torque figures of 130 bhp
(132 PS/97 kW) at 6000 rpm and 170 N·m (125 lb·ft/17.3 kgm)
at 4200 rpm respectively. This power is transmitted to the
wheels via a 4 speed automatic gearbox. It weighs a
claimed 1030 kg at the kerb.
The ninth-generation Corolla that was launched in
August 2000 came in two body types: a standard
4-door sedan and a 5-door wagon (Fielder).
The GT grade sedans and sports models, including
the Corolla Levin, were discontinued.
Details
While previous Corolla sedans maintained
conservative designs to cater to the predominantly
middle-aged and senior customers, the ninth-generation
model was fully redesigned to create “value for the new century.
” The renewed platform extended the wheelbase by 135 mm,
and the body length, height, and width by 80 mm, 85 mm,
and 5 mm, respectively. The width was almost at the upper
limit for a “5-number” vehicle.
The Corolla’s body dimensions were comparable to
those of higher grade models including the Allion and
the Premio, and were shorter only in the wheelbase and the length.
The DOHC 16-valve VVT-i gasoline engines, including 1.3-liter (2NZ-FE), 1.5-liter (1NZ-FE) and 1.8-liter (1ZZ-FE) units, were all newly developed. Also, an SOHC 8-valve 2.2-liter diesel engine (3C-E) featuring a direct-acting valve train was available. The choice of transmissions included a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic Super ECT. For the rear suspension, a torsion beam system was standard, while 4-wheel-drive models adopted a double wishbone system. The 4-door sedan body with reduced air resistance achieved a drag coefficient of 0.29. At the same time, advanced safety devices including the vehicle stability control (VSC) and traction control systems were also installed for the first time on the Corolla.

The Best Toyota Corolla Model Years
If you’re tight on money, looking for something around $10K or less, shop somewhere between 2004 to 2009. These years will be more affordable than shopping for a newer model year in the 2015 to 2020 range. The 2015 to 2020 Corollas price between $15K to $20K, and as much as $27K for a fully loaded 2020.
2003 to 2008 Fuel Economy
Fuel economy is a significant consideration when buying a used car. Smaller cars are notable for having great mileage. However, used Toyota Corollas can vary in fuel economy by a surprising amount depending on which generation you choose
Toyotas 9th generation goes from 2003 to 2008. The fuel economy for this generation tops all the generations with 28-37 mpg in a city or on a highway.
The 10th generation ran from 2009 to 2013, and the gas mileage for the 2013 model peaks at 27-33 mpg, which isn’t as good as the 9th generation, but it is still reliable.
The 11th generation launched in 2014 and has the best gas mileage with 30-40 mpg, but if you want to save money, then the 9th generation is going to be the best generation to buy.
